What it means to be a believer

Simply put, a believer is someone who repents of sin and believes in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

The Apostle’s Creed is an amazing summary of what we, as Christians, believe in.

However, it’s not enough to say we believe in our hearts, we must confess our believe.
Romans 10:10 NKJV “For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation”.

A way in which a believer can be guided/encouraged to ‘confess with their mouth’ the believe in their heart is by saying a prayer commonly known as ‘The Sinner’s Prayer’.

Sinner's prayer

The Sinner’s prayer is a short verbal prayer of repentance that is often said at the altar. A Christian can even lead a person to say this prayer on the roadside.

In this prayer, the person confesses their sins, the belief that Jesus Christ died for them, and invites Christ to live in their heart as they trust in Him and follow Him as their Lord and Saviour.  

The Prayer

Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner, I believe that You died on the cross, was buried and resurrected on the third day to save me from eternal death, through the forgiveness of sin by Your blood. From this day forward, I am born again to eternal life, and I am a child of God. Holy Spirit, I receive your help to live this new life, all the remaining days of my life. Amen

Importance of being part of a local church
The Christian life is not designed to be lived in isolation. Take a look at the New Testament and you’ll see the writers talking about a ‘one-another’ life. That’s a life of community, which is found in the local Church.
 
The Church is a place for feeding on God’s Word, through teaching and preaching, fellowship and accountability.

Joining a department also helps you grow as a believer and live out what the New Testament describes as the “One Another” life – that’s how we should relate to one another.
